The Girls Fiqh of Haya course is a structured Islamic course designed to help girls understand haya in a clear, practical and age-appropriate way.

Haya is often translated simply as modesty, but it is much more than what we wear. It affects the way we worship Allah, the way we speak, how we behave, the boundaries we keep, the friendships we choose, how we use our phones and social media, and the type of Muslim woman we are growing to become.

Throughout this course, girls are encouraged to understand the Islamic rulings connected to modesty while also developing confidence in their Muslim identity.

The aim is not simply to give girls a list of rules. It is to help them understand why these teachings matter, how they protect them, and how haya can become a beautiful part of their everyday lives.

The course combines Islamic learning with practical examples, reflection and situations girls may face as they grow older.

Girls can work through each lesson at their own pace, revisit lessons whenever needed and build their understanding gradually.

Course Modules

Module 1 – What Is Haya?

Girls begin by understanding what haya actually means and why it has such an important place in Islam.

We explore how haya is connected to iman and how it appears in much more than clothing. Girls begin recognising haya in worship, speech, behaviour, privacy, relationships and everyday choices.

This lesson lays the foundation for the rest of the course.

Module 2 – My Body Is an Amanah

This module helps girls understand that their bodies are a trust from Allah.

We discuss dignity, privacy, personal boundaries and why Islam teaches us to protect ourselves rather than treating the body as something that must be displayed for the approval of others.

Girls are encouraged to develop a healthy and respectful understanding of their bodies and their responsibilities towards them.

Module 3 – Understanding ‘Awrah

Girls are introduced to the meaning of ‘awrah and why certain parts of the body must be covered.

The lesson explains the principle in a clear and age-appropriate way and helps girls understand that Islamic modesty has guidelines and rulings rather than simply being based upon culture or personal preference.

Module 4 – Dressing With Haya

This module looks practically at clothing and modesty.

Girls learn that modest clothing is about more than simply covering particular parts of the body. We discuss clothing that is appropriate, dignity in dress and how Muslim girls can enjoy clothing and personal style while still maintaining haya.

Module 5 – Preparing for Hijab

This lesson helps girls understand the transition towards hijab in a positive way.

We discuss why hijab matters, when Islamic responsibilities begin and how girls can prepare themselves spiritually and practically.

The aim is to help girls see hijab as part of worship and obedience to Allah rather than something to fear or resent.

Module 6 – Hijab: More Than a Headscarf

Girls explore the wider meaning of hijab and learn that it is not simply something worn on the head.

We look at clothing, behaviour, speech, boundaries and the attitude of a Muslim girl who wants to please Allah.

Girls are encouraged to connect outward modesty with inward haya.

Module 7 – Beauty, Make-Up, Perfume and Jewellery

Girls naturally enjoy beauty, and Islam does not teach that beauty itself is wrong.

This module looks at beautification and where it is appropriate.

We discuss make-up, perfume, jewellery and personal adornment, helping girls understand that Islam provides appropriate settings and boundaries for displaying beauty.

Module 8 – Boys, Boundaries and Lowering the Gaze

As girls grow older, interactions with boys and non-mahram males become increasingly important to understand.

This lesson introduces appropriate boundaries in an age-appropriate way.

Girls learn about lowering the gaze, avoiding unnecessary closeness, protecting the heart and understanding that boundaries are not something embarrassing or outdated.

They are part of protecting our dignity and our relationship with Allah.

Module 9 – Phones, Social Media and Haya

Haya does not disappear when we go online.

This lesson explores photographs, messaging, social media, privacy, trends, attention-seeking and the type of content we consume and share.

Girls are encouraged to ask themselves whether their online choices protect their dignity, privacy and heart.

We also discuss recognising when phones and social media are becoming unhealthy influences and when taking a step back may be beneficial.

Module 10 – Speech, Jokes and Good Character

Haya can be seen in the way we speak.

This module looks at speech, joking, gossip, inappropriate conversations, kindness, honesty, patience and good manners.

Girls learn that beautiful Islamic character includes knowing when to speak, what to avoid and how to behave towards others even when they are upset or under pressure.

The lesson encourages girls to develop character that reflects their Islamic identity.

Module 11 – Building Good Habits for a Beautiful Future

The final module brings the entire course together.

Girls review how haya affects:

• worship
• clothing
• speech
• privacy
• friendships
• online behaviour
• boundaries
• character

They then begin thinking about the habits they want to carry forward.

Girls are encouraged to set practical goals connected to salah, Qur’an, speech, hijab, friendships, screen time, character and their future.

We also look at what to do when mistakes happen: stopping, making tawbah, correcting what can be corrected and beginning again.

The course finishes by helping girls understand that the habits they build now can shape the Muslim woman they become in the future.

What This Course Aims to Develop
